Delhi Lt Governor blames Arvind Kejriwal for delay in sacking principal

The secretariat of Delhi Lieutenant Governor has accused the Aam aadmi Party (AAP) government of delaying the sacking of the principal of Baba Saheb Ambedkar (BSA) Medical College, Dr Ishwar Singh, in a sexual harassment case.

The Lt Governor said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was sitting on the file for over 45 days as chairman of the National Capital Civil Service Authority (NCCSA) despite reminders to expedite the matter.

The LG’s secretariat cited the case as a glaring example of negligence by CM Kejriwal, regretting that neither transfer posting nor vigilance action on sensitive matters could be initiated due to the CM's inaction.

Considering the severity of the case, the Lt Governor directed Delhi Police to promptly initiate criminal proceedings and urged the Chief Secretary to expedite the disciplinary process.

Arvind Kejriwal is presently in Enforcement Directorate custody after being arrested in a money laundering case related to an alleged liquor policy scam.

The ruling party in Delhi has insisted that Kejriwal would not step down as Chief Minister and would function from jail if needed. Earlier this week, the AAP convenor issued two orders from the probe agency's lockup.

The ED has said that Kejriwal was the "kingpin of the liquor policy scam" and was directly involved in framing the policy. Kejriwal's legal team has argued that there was no "direct evidence" linking the Delhi CM to the case.
