The BJP on Friday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son Yathindra for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing a public event in Chamarajanagara on Thursday, the former Varuna MLA said, "You all know how the BJP has run the government in the last 10 years. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is a 'goonda' (hooligan) and a rowdy. There were murder charges against him related to the Gujarat riots. And the person who had such a person by his side and did politics is PM Modi. There is a big charge against him for causing genocide against Muslims. So people involved in such criminal activities have been in power for the past 10 years."

On Friday, a BJP delegation lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission against Yathindra Siddaramaiah, saying he violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

In its complaint, the BJP delegation called Yathindra's remarks "reprehensible" and a personal attack on the Prime Minister and Home Minister.

The party also demanded the state police to file an FIR against Yathindra for "hate speech".

Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra condemned Yathindra's remarks, saying it was not right on his part as a former legislator and son of the Chief Minister to make such statements.
