The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy. Arvind Kejriwal's wife, Sunita, welcomed the decision and called it a result of the prayers and blessings of millions of people and a "victory of democracy".

"Hanuman ji ki Jai. This is the victory of democracy. It is the result of the prayers and blessings of millions of people. Many thanks to everyone," she wrote in a post on microblogging site X in Hindi.

Sunita Kejriwal is also expected to reach the Tihar Jail to receive Arvind Kejriwal when he steps out of the jail.

Earlier in the day, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also described the interim bail as a blessing of Lord Hanuman to his devotee Kejriwal.

"Kejriwal's interim bail after 40 days is no less than a miracle. There is also a divine hint that prevailing conditions are going to change in the country. His release will pave the way for big changes in the country," Delhi Minister and AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a press conference.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also welcomed the bail of Arvind Kejriwal.

"Truth can be troubled but not defeated. The decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court is welcome. The dictatorship will end. Satyamev Jayate," AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said in a post in Hindi on X.

AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak told news agency PTI, "We welcome the Supreme Court order. Satyamev Jayete! The dictatorship will end."

A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, on Friday granted interim bail to Kejriwal, adding that he will have to surrender and go back to jail on June 2.

The matter relates to the alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22.
