Rs 1,700 crore Income Tax notice to Congress; UN comments on Kejriwal's arrest

After comments from the United States and Germany regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the United Nations has now commented on the matter. Responding to a question about the "political unrest" in India amid the AAP chief’s arrest and the freezing of Congress's bank accounts, a UN spokesperson said the world body hoped for the protection of people's "political and civil rights" during elections in India and other nations. The gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who died on Thursday due to cardiac arrest, was allegedly ‘slow poisoned’ in jail, according to his son Umar Ansari. The Uttar Pradesh government has stated that a three-member team will conduct a magisterial enquiry into the death of the former five-time MLA. The Income Tax Department has issued a notice of Rs 1,700 crore to the Congress, hours after the Delhi High Court rejected the party's pleas against tax reassessment proceedings. The notice was served for the assessment years 2017-18 and 2020-21 and includes penalty and interest.
