A woman Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Uttar Pradesh fell victim to a matrimonial fraud after she was cheated into marrying a man who posed as an IRS officer and ended up being defrauded out of lakhs of rupees.

Shrestha Thakur, a 2012-batch IPS officer known for her astuteness, married a man named Rohit Raj, whom she met on a matrimonial site in 2018.

Known as 'Lady Singham' due to her sharp policing skills, Shrestha Thakur was led to believe that Rohit Raj was a 2008-batch IRS officer posted as Deputy Commissioner in Ranchi. She then married him. But then, the plot took a twist.

It turned out later that, after a round of family investigations, the real Rohit Raj was indeed an IRS officer. However, after the marriage, Shrestha Thakur learnt that her husband was not the IRS officer he had claimed to be.

Understanding the gravity of the matter, the woman DSP chose to swallow the bitter pill for the sake of preserving her marriage. However, she later found out that her "husband" began duping other people in her name.

Fed up with this, Shrestha Thakur divorced Rohit Raj after two years of marriage. However, her problems did not end. The fake Rohit Raj continued to cheat people, prompting Shrestha Thakur to file a case against him in Ghaziabad.

The police subsequently arrested the accused and initiated an investigation into the case.
