Trinamool Congress's women's wing on Wednesday wrote to the National Commission for Women (NCW), seeking action against BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, over "derogatory words" against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

State Minister and president of the Trinamool Mahila Congress Committee, Chandrima Bhattacharya, in her complaint to the commission, alleged that the BJP leader has "time and again used derogatory words and filthy remarks" against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“The usage of such words is not only disrespectful but also crass in nature. Smt. Mamata Banerjee is the only Chief Minister of the country and the usage of such words by Shri Adhikari not only defames her but also disrespects women at large,” the complaint asserted.

The minister further alleged that “despite such behaviour, no action or steps have been taken” by NCW against Adhikari and “such comments simply go unchecked without any cognisance being taken by NCW authorities”.

“We are surprised as to how such irresponsible comments or statements can be dished out by a person against a woman leader and a Chief Minister,” Bhattacharya further said in her complaint. '

She urged the commission to take “immediate action against Adhikari” and “do whatever is necessary to uphold the magnanimity and dignity of women”.
