TMC MLA Tapas Roy said some miscreants have entered the TMC, causing problems for the party.

As the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal faces heat from the opposition BJP over the alleged teachers' recruitment scam, party leader and MLA Tapas Roy said some miscreants have entered Trinamool Congress and are causing problems for the party.

“Miscreants from other parties have infiltrated our party for some benefit. They want to be with the ruling party. They took help from some of us. And they entered our party,” claimed Roy while addressing an internal party meeting in Khardah, North 24 Parganas district.

“They were working for their own benefits. If we could have prevented it, we would not have seen this situation the party is facing today,” he added in the meeting that took place at Rabindra Bhavan.

Trinamool leaders, ministers and their close associates are also under the scrutiny of the Central Investigation Agency in the cases of cow smuggling and coal smuggling.

Last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee in connection with its probe into alleged money laundering in the teacher recruitment scam case.

Chatterjee was arrested under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) Act.

It was suspected that transactions worth crores of rupees were made for the appointment of teachers recruited through the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC). Several influential people have also been named in the case.
