Top Lucknow cops suspended for negligence after mob harasses woman

A woman riding pillion on a motorcycle was harassed by a group of men on a flooded road in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow. The video of the incident went viral, drawing widespread criticism.

After the incident, due to the apparent negligence of the police, the local Deputy Commissioner of Police, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police were immediately removed from their positions.

Additionally, the local Station House Officer, the in-charge of the police outpost, and all police personnel present at the outpost have been suspended.

The incident occurred on Wednesday under the Taj Hotel bridge in Lucknow.

In the video, as the bike crossed the group, a few men tried to pull it back, which led to the duo falling on the waterlogged road amid heavy rain. The footage also shows a man allegedly groping the woman before pulling the bike.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Lucknow police arrested two people for allegedly harassing a woman.

A total of four people have been arrested so far. A case has been registered under relevant charges, and three police teams were formed to identify the accused.

On Wednesday, heavy rain led to flooding in parts of Uttar Pradesh's Vidhan Sabha building, where the monsoon session of the state assembly is underway. Apart from the assembly, several other locations in the state capital experienced waterlogging for nearly two hours amid intense rain.
