After high drama and searches at his residence, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam, becoming the first sitting chief minister to be arrested. However, this is not the first time that Arvind Kejriwal has faced arrest.

Kejriwal, who gained popularity riding on the wave of the anti-corruption movement that he spearheaded with Anna Hazare, was first arrested in 2012 and was lodged at Delhi's Bawana jail. He was again arrested in 2014 after he resigned as Chief Minister months ago, and was kept in Tihar jail for two days.

ARRESTED IN 2012 FOR RUCKUS OUTSIDE PM'S RESIDENCE

On October 12, 2012, at the height of the India Against Corruption (IAC) movement, there was high drama near then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence -- 7, Race Course Road (RCR).

Kejriwal, who had not launched his political outfit yet, spearheaded a protest march towards the Prime Minister's residence demanding the sacking of then Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid amid allegations of financial irregularities against his family-run NGO, Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust. The NGO helped differently-abled people in Uttar Pradesh.

Kejriwal, who resigned as joint commissioner of the Income Tax department in 2006 to join Hazare's campaign for Lokpal legislation, also sought the arrest of Khurshid and his wife Louise Khurshid.

The protesters, which also included Manish Sisodia, started a demonstration near the PM's residence. Some of the IAC members also allegedly tried to enter the bungalow.

Anticipating a law and order situation, Kejriwal and some of the protesters were arrested and taken to Bawana Jail. Interestingly, Kejriwal had then refused to leave the prison until his demands were met.

"Those who fight corruption are being jailed. And a corrupt minister is free," he had then said, as reported by PTI.
