Tamil Nadu man plays with deadly snake on New Year, dies of snake bite

The man held the snake, calling it a New Year gift, even after it bit him on his hands.

By Pramod Madhav: A man from Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore died after being bitten by a snake during New Year celebrations on Saturday night. Manikandan, in an inebriated condition, was playing with the venomous snake when he died of snake bite.

Manikandan was part of a New Year celebration when he saw a snake crawling in the nearby bushes. Bystanders cautioned him against catching the snake, but Manikandan caught the snake and tried to scare the crowd gathered around him.

He held the snake up high, calling it a New Year's gift, even after it bit him on his hands.

Within minutes, the man collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. His friend Kabilan, who brought the snake along to show it to the doctors, was also bitten when he tried to open the sack. Kabilan is under treatment at Cuddalore government hospital.
