Delhi minister Atishi
met the jailed Delhi chief minister in Tihar jail.
Soon after the meeting, Delhi minister Atishi posted on X, "Even in jail Arvind Kejriwal is not worried about himself but about 2 crore Delhiites. Today, during the entire meeting in the jail, he took information about the studies of the children studying in Delhi Government schools and gave instructions to make arrangements so that there is no shortage of water in Delhi during summers."
"The Chief Minister has also sent a message to his mothers, sisters and daughters of Delhi that he will come out soon and will definitely fulfill the promise of giving ₹ 1,000 per month to the women of Delhi," she added.
The meeting comes a day after the Aam Aadmi Party had claimed that the Tihar jail authority had denied Sunita's permission to meet Kejriwal.
"The names of
Sunita Kejriwal
and Atishi were sent to the Tihar administration on April 27 for meeting the chief minister on Monday (April 29). The prison administration informed us just now that they would not allow Sunita Kejriwal to meet the CM on Monday. They will only allow Atishi," the party said on Sunday.
However, jail authorities soon refuted party's charges
Meanwhile, Election Commission (EC) has imposed a ban on the party's Lok Sabha campaign song, 'Jail ke jawab mein hum vote denge', stating that it shows the ruling BJP and central investigation agencies in a bad light.
The ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21 after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him protection from coercive action by the federal anti-money laundering agency. He is currently lodged in Tihar jail under judicial custody.
On April 15, the top court issued a notice to the ED and sought its response to Kejriwal's plea.
The high court had on April 9 upheld Kejriwal's arrest in the money laundering case, saying there was no illegality about it and that the ED was left with "little option" after he skipped repeated summonses and refused to join the investigation.
The matter pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22 which was later scrapped.
