THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a day of dramatic developments that are bound to worsen the already tense standoff between Kerala governor

Arif Mohammed Khan

and the LDF government, the central government intervened to provide the former with Z+ security, while chief minister

Pinarayi Vijayan

took a swipe saying

Khan

had lowered himself to the level of an RSS functionary.

The Centre's decision came just hours after Khan, on his way to attend a function in the morning, got out of his car and confronted a group of

SFI

protesters waving black flags, at Nilammel.
Khan alleged that SFI workers, who came to protest against him, were "daily wage workers" of the CM. "There were more than 50 people. The police did not even try to remove the protestors. As the head of the state, I cannot encourage lawlessness," he said. At Nilammel, the governor sat at a roadside teastall for an hour-and-a-half, refusing to budge till police filed an FIR and invoked non-bailable charges against the protesters.
"I have no issues if they show black flags, but they tried to hit my car," he said.

The CM termed the CRPF security cover given to Khan as "bizarre", saying the governor had belittled himself. Vijayan claimed the governor was already being provided top security in the state.
