MUMBAI: Amid reports that the state government had formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the death of

Disha Salian

, manager of actor Sushant Singh, and that the

would investigate the alleged role of Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA

Aaditya Thackeray

as well, UBT Sena MLA

Sunil Prabhu

on Thursday said the probe was driven by political vendetta while Shiv Sena minister

Shambhuraj Desai

said the matter was serious and those guilty would be booked.

Desai said outside the assembly that he had information an SIT had been formed and a senior IPS officer would lead it. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the home portfolio, did not reply to a query from TOI on whether an SIT had been set up.
During the winter session of the legislature in Nagpur last year, the state government had announced it would form an SIT to probe Salian's death.
"This is an old case, so many primary facts have already been probed. Since the SIT has been formed under a senior IPS officer, this is a serious matter. All facts will come out and there will be a detailed probe. The police will do their work and whoever is guilty will be booked," Desai said.

Shinde group MLA Bharat Gogawale said if there is any substance in allegations made about Salian's death, there will be an investigation. "But if there is no truth, there is nothing to fear," he said.
Prabhu said action must also be taken against the minister involved in drug racket kingpin Lalit Patil's case. "Then people will decide whether they believe in the allegations (in the Salian case) or not," he said.
Salian died on June 8, 2020 after a fall from the 14th floor of a building in Malad, a week before Rajput was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his residence.

Responding to a demand from MLAs from the BJP-Shinde Sena that Salian's death be investigated, deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis had called upon those having clinching evidence in the case to hand it over to the police for a thorough investigation.
In November last year, the Sena (UBT) had hit out at BJP after the CBI reportedly concluded that Salian's death was an accident. CBI sources had however then said they had not registered any case or conducted any specific probe into her death. As part of their probe into Rajput's death, they had said they had conducted some inquiry as she was his talent manager, but they had not arrived at any conclusion.
Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab said, "By holding such an inquiry, they (government) are trying to drag our party down, but it will not happen. Mumbai police have already investigated who was where when the incident took place. They have all the reports. The CBI was also asked to conduct the entire investigation."
