Gang thrashes interfaith couple in Karnataka, revelations in ‘kill Pannun’ plot; more

A group of six to seven men verbally abused and thrashed an interfaith couple, who were staying at a hotel in Karnataka’s Haveri district, police said. The incident took place on January 7. The matter came to light after the victims narrated their ordeal to the police, and registered a case against the accused. Police have arrested two accused so far. The US government has objected to providing defence material to Nikhil Gupta's lawyers in the Gurpatwant Singh Pannun case, stating that it will furnish the information only upon his appearance in a New York court. "The government respectfully submits this letter in opposition to defendant Nikhil Gupta’s motion to compel discovery during the pendency of his extradition proceedings in the Czech Republic," PTI reported, quoting federal prosecutors.
