Seven killed in wall collapse amid heavy rain in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Tuesday evening's sudden downpour leading to the collapse of a retaining wall in a construction site at Bachupally, in the city, killed seven migrant workers and injured seven others.
The wall collapsed on the abutting labour camp, resulting in the tragedy. The deceased included a woman and an eight year old girl, said police.
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy expressed shock at the incident and inquired with the officials about the incident.

He directed strict action to be taken against those responsible for the incident. He also instructed officials to provide all support to the victims.
According to police, a construction company Rise Developers have started an apartment construction in Renuka Yellamma Colony of Bachupally and they have provided accommodation to the workers in sheds in the same site.

On Tuesday around 7.30pm, when all the workers were in the sheds, due to heavy rain and winds, the wall which was around 20 feet collapsed and fell on the sheds by its side.
Alerted by locals, police, DRF teams rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. By 3am on Wednesday, they could recover all seven bodies. Meanwhile, the injured persons were admitted to nearby hospitals and they are also said to be out of danger.
DCP Balanagar zone, Cyberabad T Srinivasa Rao told TOI that among those died in the incident, four are from Chhattisgarh and three are from Odisha. They are verifying details of the builder and what kind of permissions he has obtained from the respective departments.
