In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said the BJP must remember that when the government changes, action will be taken against those who have "disrobed democracy".

"Such exemplary action will be taken that no one will dare to do all this again. This is my guarantee," Rahul Gandhi said in a post in Hindi.

Notably, the BJP is running a campaign 'Modi ki guarantee' for the Lok Sabha elections, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to deliver on his poll promises.

The former Congress president also tagged a previous video of his and used the hashtag "#BJPTaxTerrorism" with his post.

On Friday, the Congress said it received a fresh notice from the Income Tax department to deposit Rs 1,800 crore for discrepancies in tax returns for previous years.

Calling the notice "egregious", the Congress accused the BJP of indulging in "tax terrorism".

"Efforts are being made to financially cripple the Congress, but we are not going to be cowed down," said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh at a press conference.

The Congress has also decided to hold nationwide protests over the weekend against the Income Tax order.

In February this year, the Congress said the party's bank accounts were frozen for allegedly defaulting on income tax. The party was issued a notice to pay Rs 130 crore in purported overdue taxes.

The Congress also said that the Income Tax department recovered Rs 51 crore from its bank accounts after the Delhi High Court denied the party's appeal against the income tax notice.
