1 week ago 11

A 23-year-old woman was held hostage and tortured for a month by her neighbour in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district. The police arrested the accused, Ayan Pathan, after the woman was admitted to a hospital with severe injuries and filed a complaint.

According to the woman, Pathan escalated the violence against her on Tuesday, beat her up with a plastic pipe and belt, threw chilli powder in her eyes and mouth, and then glued her mouth with adhesive.

In her complaint, the woman claimed that Ayan Pathan had befriended the woman who lived in the neighbourhood and the two were in a relationship.

The woman’s mother said that she had warned her daughter to stay away from Pathan and took her away to Shivpuri. The woman, however, returned to Guna and started living with the accused at his house.

A few months after that, Pathan started torturing the woman, asking her to transfer her house to him. When she refused, he beat her up.

During the holy month of Ramzan, Pathan, who works as a labourer, allegedly physically abused the woman several times with the assistance of his kin. The physical exploitation lasted for about a month.

On Tuesday, Pathan assaulted the woman and in an attempt to silence her cries for help, he stuffed chilli powder into her mouth and glued her lips with an adhesive.

The woman was admitted to a hospital with severe injuries and is under treatment.

On the basis of the woman’s complaint, the police arrested Pathan. The police recovered Fevi Kwik, a belt, and a plastic pipe from the room where the woman was held hostage for a month by Pathan.

The police also recovered illicit liquor from the accused’s house.

Police said that the 23-year-old woman was being forced by the accused Ayan Pathan to marry him. The man also wanted her house, which was under her mother’s name, police said.

The accused has been charged under Sections 376 (rape), 294 (obscene language), 323 (voluntarily causing pain), and the Excise Act. Police said they could file further charges following an investigation.
