BAREILLY:A 22-year-old man, who kept a 17-year-old girl in confinement for three days and repeatedly sexually assaulted her after she refused to marry him, was arrested and sent to jail in Lakhimpur Kheri on Saturday, reports Kanwardeep Singh. The survivor was abused, beaten and the accused wrote the letters of his name 'Aman' on her face with a hot iron rod, police said.
Cops initially registered a case under 'lesser' sections such as wrongful confinement and voluntarily causing hurt, her family alleged.

However, after the survivor's statement was recorded before a magistrate under Sec 164 CrPC, sections of

rape

along with Pocso Act were added to FIR.
Refuting the family's allegations, SSP (Kheri) Ganesh Saha told TOI, "We'd registered an FIR on basis of a complaint by her family. A video statement of the girl was recorded in which she didn't level such grave allegations. We don't know why she changed her statement in court. However, we have started our probe as per her allegations now. The accused has been arrested."
SHO (Dhaurahra), Dinesh Singh, said, "The man is a school dropout and works at a salon in Hyderabad. He wanted to marry the girl and when she refused, he wrote his name on both her cheeks. We registered an FIR when she came to the police station with her family. Since she didn't carry an ID, we were not sure whether she was a minor. We have now added IPC section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapon) and 376 (rape) along with Pocso Act."
