By Rajesh Saha: The Kolkata Police have removed inspector Biswas Mukherjee from the post of officer-in-charge of Tiljala police station after NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanungo accused him of manhandling and beating him inside the police station.

This comes a day after the Kolkata Police refuted the allegations of the NCPCR chief.

Biswas Mukherjee has now been transferred to the Kolkata Police training Academy. Inspector Supratik Bannerjee took over as the new officer-in-charge of Tiljala police station on Saturday. Bannerjee was posted in the Detective department of Kolkata police.

Chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Priyank Kanungo had visited the Tiljala police station on Friday to probe the case of the abduction and murder of a seven-year-old girl.

After his visit, the NCPCR chief alleged that he was manhandled and beaten up at the police station by senior inspector Biswas Mukherjee.

However, officials in the Kolkata Police dismissed the allegations as false and baseless and vouched for Mukherjee's integrity.

Later, the NCPCR chairperson lodged a written complaint against the inspector before a deputy commissioner of police.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, a case was registered against senior inspector Biswas Mukherjee under non-bailable sections of the IPC. The investigation was taken over by the detective department of Kolkata police and now, Supratik Banerjee has replaced Biswas Mukherjee as the officer-in-charge of Tiljala police station.
