J&K: Suspected terrorist snatches police weapon in Pulwama; area cordoned off

The weapon of a police officer was snatched by a suspected terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama on Sunday. The area was cordoned off and the suspect was identified as Irfan Ganie.

By India Today Web Desk: A suspected terrorist on Sunday snatched the weapon of a Central Reserve Police personnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama. The terrorist fled the spot soon after.

The suspect was identified as Irfan Ganie.

The incident was reported while the CRPF 183 battalion was on patrol duty in Pulwama.

The area was cordoned off.

Meanwhile, in action against those providing safe haven to terrorists, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday attached the property of the father of terrorist associates who provided logistical support to terrorists in Awantipora.

Police attached the property of Mohd Shafi Lone, father of terrorist associates Jahangir Ahmad Lone and Umar Shafi Lone who provided shelter and logistical assistance to terrorists in Awantipora.

On Saturday, during an annual press briefing, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said a total of 186 terrorists, including 56 Pak-based foreign terrorists-- belonging to the proscribed outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM)-- were killed in the year 2022.

"I am happy to inform you that the year 2022 has proved to be an even better year than the previous years. In the year 2022, the process of consolidating peace and creating a good atmosphere for the citizens, which has been going on with great enthusiasm for the last few years, continued and we achieved success," said DGP Dilbag Singh.

Talking about the number of active terrorists in the region, he said, "The number of terrorists, including foreign terrorists, who are active is over 100. But efforts are underway to bring them down. These numbers will be under the double digits," he added.
