IBM stops advertising on social media platform X, here's why

IBM has suspended all advertising on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after its ads were seen next to pro-Nazi posts. X has been criticized for its handling of hate speech and harmful content. CEO Elon Musk has faced allegations of endorsing anti-Semitic views on Twitter, although he has denied these claims. In response to IBM's move, X CEO Linda Yaccarino emphasized the platform's commitment to combatting discrimination and antisemitism.

platform formerly known as Twitter, after a report that the tech company's ads were appearing next to pro-Nazi posts on the platform. In a statement to The Verge, the company said, “IBM has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination and we have immediately suspended all advertising on

while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation.”
X has been under fire for its handling of hate speech and other harmful content since

Musk

took over the company.

Musk has said that he is committed to free speech and that he will not ban users for their opinions, even if those opinions are hateful or offensive.
However, in the last few days, it has been alleged that Musk has been endorsing anti-semitic views on Twitter. For example, user on X wrote that “I'm deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest shit now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don't exactly like them too much.” In response to the tweet, Musk said “You have said the actual truth.” The X owner also agreed with a tweet that implied that Jewish communities have stoked “hatred against whites.” Musk refuted claims about him endorsing anti-semitic views in replies to tweets that pointed out he was doing anything but that.

What X CEO has to say

Hours after it was reported that IBM had pulled advertising from the social media platform, X CEO

Linda Yaccarino

shared the company’s views on antisemitism and discrimination. “X’s point of view has always been very clear that discrimination by everyone should STOP across the board -- I think that's something we can and should all agree on. When it comes to this platform -- X has also been extremely clear about our efforts to combat antisemitism and discrimination. There's no place for it anywhere in the world -- it's ugly and wrong. Full stop,” she said in a tweet.
