Hundreds of residents at Ghaziabad's Saya Gold Avenue Society fell ill allegedly after drinking contaminated water. A team of the health department, that arrived at the high-rise after receiving complaints about the same, conducted rounds of inspections and provided primary treatment to those affected.

According to the residents of society, many, including children, have been complaining of ill health with similar symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, and fever, for the past few days.

Complaints were lodged with the RWA (Resident Welfare Association) after residents noticed contaminated drinking water.

They also said the issue had previously been raised with the society authorities and the builder, but to no vain.

Talking to India Today TV, one of the residents alleged they were paying hefty amounts as maintenance but were not being provided with decent services. The society's elevators were also dysfunctional, he alleged.

Another resident told India Today TV her entire family had fallen ill.

Residents also alleged the builder threatened them and called up bouncers after such issues were raised with him. They also said the society authorities initially did not allow the officials of the health department to intervene.

However, the health department officials said they had collected water samples and that primary treatment was administered to the affected individuals.

The officials said they, along with a team of doctors, would set up a health camp on the society campus for two days, until the reports of the water samples are available.
