Hanuman ji gave insulin to Arvind Kejriwal: Saurabh Bharadwaj

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday said it was "Lord Hanuman, who on his 'janmotsav,' gave insulin to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal" after the Tihar Jail administration and Central government denied the AAP supremo a dosage despite repeated requests.

Bharadwaj's remark came just hours after it was reported that the AAP chief, who is a Type-2 Diabetes patient, was given two units of insulin in Tihar Jail after his sugar level spiked to 320. This was the first insulin dose given to Kejriwal following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21.

On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti today, the Delhi Health Minister was seen carrying a 'gadda' (mace) adorned with what appeared to be insulin vials. He also staged a rally, with a person dressed as Lord Hanuman carrying large insulin vials accompanying him.

When he was asked about the BJP and RSS talking about the 'Ram card' amid the ongoing election season and if the AAP was now playing a 'Hanuman card', the Delhi Health Minister told India Today TV, "No, there is no such card. We celebrate Hanuman Janmotsav every year. Arvind Kejriwal is a known 'bhakt' (devotee) of Lord Hanuman."

"When he (Kejriwal) failed to get insulin from the jail authorities and the Central government, it was Hanuman ji, who on his 'janmotsav', gave him insulin. We are very thankful to Hanuman ji," he added.

The Delhi Minister went on to say that "when Lord Ram was facing problems, Hanuman ji brought the 'Sanjeevani' for him.

"Similarly, when Arvind Kejriwal prayed to Hanuman ji on his janmotsav, he was given insulin. His blood sugar level had spiked to more than 300," he said.

"There is no difference between Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Blessings from the people of Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana will prove to be the AAP's biggest 'Sanjeevani' this election season."

Earlier in the day, Bharadwaj told the ANI news agency that since the time of the Chief Minister's arrest, the latter has said "over and over again" that his blood sugar level crossed the 300-level and had not been provided with any insulin.

"In order to put Arvind Kejriwal in trouble, deliberately through conspiracies there is an attempt has been made to harm him. Today the BJP and the Central government stand completely exposed. After the court's order, when the AIIMS specialist saw him (Kejriwal), then insulin was provided," he added.

A Tihar Jail source told India Today TV on Tuesday morning that two units of insulin were given to Kejriwal on Monday evening after a doctor from AIIMS advised the prison administration to administer a dosage if absolutely necessary.

The AAP chief used to take 50 units of insulin on a daily basis when he was not in jail.

On Monday, Kejriwal had claimed that the Tihar Jail administration's recent statement on his health was false amid the "denied insulin" row.

The row further escalated after the Enforcement Directorate alleged last week that Kejriwal had been eating mangoes, aloo puri and sweets daily in an effort to raise his blood sugar level and create a ground for a medical bail.

His lawyer countered the allegations saying he only had mangoes thrice in jail and consumed aloo puri as a Navratra prasad.
