Punjabi music composer and lyricist Bunty Bains narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Mohali, Punjab on Tuesday. The attack happened when Bains was at a restaurant in the city’s sector 79.

Unknown assailants opened fire on Bains, who escaped without any injuries. He has filed a police complaint.

Speaking to Aaj Tak/India Today, Bains recounted the harrowing experience. He revealed that following the attack, he received a threatening phone call demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore.

Failure to comply with the demand, he was warned, would result in his death.

The threat was allegedly made in the name of Lucky Patial, a notorious gangster believed to be operating from Canada. Patial is known for his connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs, which have been involved in various criminal activities across Punjab.

Police said an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Bains has been credited with shaping the careers of several prominent Punjabi singers, including the late Sidhu Moose Wala. In fact, Bains' company used to manage Moose Wala's affairs when he was alive.

Notably, Sidhu Moose Wala was also killed in a drive-by shooting in May 2022. Gangster Goldy Brar had claimed responsibility for the murder.
