Gujarat judge accused of forging colleagues’ resignation letters

AHMEDABAD:

Gujarat high court

has reserved the verdict on the

dismissal

of a judge allegedly involved in

forging

the

resignation letters

of two other judges.
The case involves a civil judge and judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), who was posted in Limbdi court in

Surandranagar district

, where the principal district judge received resignation letters from two judges in Sept 2021.

One of the judges was an additional sessions judge and the other a JMFC. Both judges were surprised when the principal district judge inquired about the resignation letters.
While one judge lodged an FIR with Limbdi police station, the other complaint was registered with Surendranagar’s A Division city police station. Both FIRs were filed against unknown persons.
A police investigation later found that the civil judge was

allegedly

involved in forging the resignation letters of the two judges. The judge unsuccessfully approached the high court for anticipatory bail claiming that he was being framed.

After HC rejected the judge’s anticipatory bail applications, a petition was filed in Supreme Court.
The accused judge was inducted into the judicial service in 2013 with a two-years probation period.
In 2022, the judge was terminated from service and high court’s administrative side justified the sacking citing poor performance till 2018 and other complaints. The judge challenged the dismissal.
