BTech student

was

shot dead

by his

at a condominium in Crossings Republik, where both the youngsters lived but in separate flats, in the early hours of Saturday.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, a retired BSF jawan, pumped 4-5 bullets into the chest of Vipul Verma after a spat with him at his daughter’s flat on the 14th floor of Paramount Symphony in the Ghaziabad township, police said.

Vipul's flat is on the seventh floor of the same tower. Singh himself dialled 112 to report the murder.
Assistant commissioner of police (Wave City) Poonam Mishra said they received the call from Singh around 3.30am. “He said he had killed someone. A team was sent to the society from Crossings Republik police station. The student lay on the floor of the flat, oozing blood. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” she added. Till late on Saturday evening, police were in the process of registering a case against Singh. Originally from Ballia, Vipul (23) was a student of ABES engineering college.
“His family members have been informed and they are on the way. The area where he was shot is being inspected by a team of forensic experts. We have come to know that the accused was with BSF earlier and currently works with a private security agency in south Delhi,” Mishra said. According to police sources, Vipul and his girlfriend were from the same village in Ballia and had been dating for the past 5-6 years. “Their relationship had turned sour recently, leading to frequent quarrels,” the ACP said.

The girl, who works with a private firm in Noida, told her brother about her quarrels with Vipul. He, in turn, informed their father. On Saturday evening, the girl called her father, who was at that time in Delhi, allegedly after she picked a fight with the BTech student.
“He reached her flat around 2.30am and called Vipul. Both of them were engaged in an argument for a while when Rajesh Singh whipped out a gun and fired at Vipul near the lift lobby. As he slumped to the ground, the girl’s father called police,” Mishra said. Although police said they were trying to find out why ties between Vipul and his girlfriend had turned testy of late, sources claimed the involvement of another man had led to frequent fights among them. Another officer said they were waiting for an autopsy report to ascertain how many bullets had actually hit Vipul. “An investigation is on,” he added.
