'Dilli ki Rabri Devi', 'I love Kejriwal': BJP-AAP poster war in Delhi

As the Lok Sabha campaign intensifies in Delhi against the backdrop of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in the liquor policy case, the BJP and AAP have engaged in a poster war ahead of next month's general elections in the national capital.

The Delhi BJP targeted Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal, who has been the face of AAP since her husband's arrest in March. Sunita Kejriwal held a roadshow in East Delhi in support of AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar.

As Sunita Kejriwal was busy with her roadshow, the BJP hung a poster of her in East Delhi that read, 'Dilli ki Rabri Devi Smt Sunita Kejriwal' (Delhi's Rabri Devi, Mrs Sunita Kejriwal).

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva fixed a flex board near Arvind Kejriwal's residence in Civil Lines. The board says, 'Sheesh Mahal - Bhrashtachar ka adda, Mukhyamantri niwas' (Sheesh Mahal - The centre of corruption, Chief Minister's residence) and had an arrow showing the direction of Arvind Kejriwal's residence.

'Sheesh Mahal' is a term used by the BJP for Arvind Kejriwal's residence and the party has alleged that around Rs 45 crore was spent on its "beautification".

Speaking about the flex board installed near Arvind Kejriwal's residence, Sachdeva told Aaj Tak/India Today, "We have shown the way from where plans have been made to loot Delhi. This residence is the reason behind Kejriwal not leaving his post."

"People visit Delhi to see national monuments. They should also come here to catch a glimpse of the corruption centre, Sheesh Mahal," he added.

On the other hand, the AAP have upped the ante and posters that read, 'I love Kejriwal uncle' were seen during Sunita Kejriwal's roadshow in East Delhi.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party is building a narrative in support of Arvind Kejriwal and making his arrest a poll plank during campaigning in the national capital.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy. He has been lodged in Tihar Jail since April 1 and will remain in judicial custody till May 7.

The AAP has accused the BJP of hatching a "political conspiracy" against Arvind Kejriwal and asserted that the party was preventing him from campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.

Delhi, which has seven Lok Sabha seats, will vote in a single phase on May 7. Results are expected to be declared on June 4.
