Declared ‘dead’ after burnt body found, man dials home 24hrs later

: The relatives of a man, whose charred ‘body’ was found under

suspicious circumstances

in an agriculture field and shifted by the police for postmortem, received the shock of their lives when they got a call from the ‘dead’ man.
The strange incident was reported from Veerampalem, in Rangampet mandal of East Godavari district, on Friday.
Rangampet police station sub-inspector P Vijay Kumar said villagers found a completely burnt body lying near an electricity transformer in an agriculture field belonging to Ketamalla Pusaiah, a grain trader, on Friday morning.

Pusaiah’s footwear was also found near the body, which led the villagers to believe that someone had murdered the grain trader.

He called his relatives to inform that he was alive
They immediately informed his relatives and also called the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the hospital for autopsy. While postmortem was being conducted, Pusaiah’s relatives received a call from an unknown number, who turned out to be Pusaiah.
He informed them that he was alive and asked them to pick him up. When they rushed to the address given by Pusaiah, he told them he saw three unidentified youths pouring petrol on a body and setting it on fire on his farm on Thursday night. He said when he tried to thwart them, they assaulted him, dropped his footwear near the burning body, and took him somewhere in an auto.

Pusaiah claimed he lost consciousness while he was being beaten up. When he regained consciousness, he found himself lying in an agricultural field near Pidimgoyya, in Rajamahendravaram rural mandal. He also said he called them from the phone of a passer-by. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The identity of the charred body is yet to be known.
