Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday sparked a row after he alleged that the Congress wants to “give your children's property to Muslims”.

Addressing a poll rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpu, Thakur said, "In the Congress manifesto, along with the hand of the Congress, the hands of foreign forces are also visible who want to give your children's property to Muslims, finish the nation's nuclear weapons, divide the nation on casteism and regionalism”.

He alleged that the “tukde-tukde gang has surrounded Congress completely and has hijacked their ideology”.

“You have to decide whether you want to go with Congress' 'tukde-tukde' gang or Narendra Modi, who believes in 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat'. You have to decide whether the children's property should remain with them or should it go to Muslims,” Anurag Thakur said.

Thakur, however, claimed that the BJP gave “all rights to Muslims equally” and that it was not based on religion, but rather “because it was their right”.

Continuing his attack, Anurag Thakur said, “When Rajiv Gandhi became the PM, there was a law that 55% of property would go to the government, but he abolished this law and saved his property. Now, Rahul Gandhi did not get married so he wants to take away your children's property. Gandhi family does whatever suits them."

Meanwhile, calling Thakur’s remarks "outrageous", the Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the party has sent a complaint to the Election Commission against Thakur and has sought "immediate and meaningful" action against him, failing which they will "name and shame the offenders".

He said that Thakur was following the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

In a recent election rally in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleged that Congress’s manifesto says they would distribute the country's wealth, if voted to power, to "those who have more children", referring to Muslims.

This remark led to a loud controversy, with Congress hitting back vehemently.
