Defence minister Rajnath Singh echoed PM Modi's recent remarks and alleged Wednesday that Congress's manifesto for ongoing LS polls suggests covert attempts to introduce religion-based reservation even within the armed forces.Addressing a gathering of intellectuals in support of BJP-TDP-Jana Sena alliance in Visakhapatnam, senior BJP politician accused Congress of drawing from Sachar Committee report, which proposed conducting a religious census within the armed forces.

VISAKHAPATNAM:
Singh expressed concerns that such a move could potentially lead to religion-based reservations, including in the

armed forces

, posing a threat to the unity and integrity of the nation. "Minority appeasement and vote-bank politics runs in the DNA of Congress," he said.
Singh alleged that undivided Andhra Pradesh served as a "communal laboratory" for Congress to experiment with minority quota by reducing reservations of SC, ST, and OBC communities, which were eventually thwarted by the judiciary.

"Ranganath Misra Commission, established during UPA govt, recommended 6% reservations for Muslims and 2% for other minorities within the 27% quota designated for OBCs," he said.
Singh accused Congress of attempting to introduce backdoor reservations, citing sections of their manifesto aimed at providing opportunities for minorities in various sectors without legal provisions.

"When PM Modi accused Congress of backing

minority reservations

in their manifesto, they began attacking PM," he alleged.
According to him, Congress halted reservations for SC and ST communities in Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University.
