The charred body of Congress leader KPK Jeyakumar Dhanasingh was found at his farm in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, two days after he was reported missing. According to the police, his legs were tied using wires.

Jeyakumar's son Jaffrin had lodged a complaint on Friday stating that his father had been missing since Thursday.

Notably, Jeyakumar, who was Congress's Tirunelveli East district president, had allegedly written a letter to the Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police claiming that he had received death threats over financial disputes, and he had noticed suspicious men around his house during the night.

He had also mentioned the names and phone numbers of many people in the letter, which allegedly included the names of some senior Congress leaders in the district with whom he had financial disputes.

His body has been sent for postmortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is on to find whether it is a case of murder or suicide, police said.

Meanwhile, opposition parties in the state have hit out at the ruling DMK government and claimed that there was deterioration of law-and-order.

AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami said, "The charred body of a district president of a national party being retrieved is the height of the breakdown of law-and-order. In Tamil Nadu, anti-social elements dare to commit any crime without the fear of the law or police. With no concern for law-and-order, the DMK government is in deep slumber".

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai said that this incident raised questions about the law and order in the state.
