JAMMU:

Alert

BSF

troops

shot a

Pakistan

intruder near a forward post along the International

Border

in

Samba

district of Jammu and Kashmir late Wednesday evening and possibly thwarted a major

infiltration bid

.
The troops, on noticing a suspicious movement close to the border fence around 8.15 pm, challenged the intruder. He ignored the repeated warnings, and continued to advance and sneak into the Indian side, making the

BSF

personnel open fire, neutralising him.

More troops were rushed to the area for a thorough search.
Lauding his men for their alertness, BSF inspector general (Jammu frontier) D K Boora Thursday said the

intruder

might have been sent to carry out a recce of the area and assess the security along the border for an infiltration bid.
“There is a gap in the embankment near the spot and also a gate, which usually remains closed. There is a possibility that the intruder was being followed by more individuals from across (the border), but they were not visible (to BSF men),” Boora said.

Responding to concerns raised by police about two groups of terrorists recently infiltrating from across the border and reportedly hiding in the Basantgarh hills in Udhampur, the BSF IG said: “I can only comment on this particular incident. Basantgarh is not within our operational area. We have no information about any infiltration attempts along the International Border.”
