BENGALURU: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA (Channagiri constituency)

Madal Virupakshappa

, who was arrested by Lokayukta sleuths earlier this week in connection with a bribery case, was on Saturday remanded in judicial custody for nine days by a city court.
He was sent to Bengaluru Central Prison (Parappana Agrahara), where his son Prashant is currently lodged.
The same court reserved its orders on the bail plea of Prashant, a Karnataka State Audit and Accounts Services officer, to April 10. The father-son duo was arrested by Lokayukta police in an alleged bribery case. While Prashant was trapped and arrested with unaccounted cash worth Rs 40 lakh at his father's Crescent Road office on March 2, cops had arrested Virupakshappa after the HC rejected his bail plea last Monday.
Prashant's bail petition was heard on Saturday afternoon. Opposing it, public prosecutor Santosh Nagarle said: "This particular case has not only shocked the conscience of this court but also society at large as prime the accused is a sitting MLA and second accused is his son. There is enough material to attract several sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and courts should deal with such cases with an iron hand."
