6 dead, several injured as land dispute triggers clash in UP’s Deoria

The two groups opened fire at each other during a land dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria, leaving six people dead and a dozen others injured.

Several vehicles were damaged and arson incidents were reported in the districts following the clash.

Six people were killed and several injured after two groups clashed in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria over a longstanding land dispute. Several vehicles were damaged and arson incidents were reported in the district following the clash.

The dispute began between Ramashish Yadav and Shashibhushan Chauhan when the former was making boundaries around his land. The road leading to this land passes through the house of Chauhan, a retired BSF officer.

Chauhan claimed that some of his land had been encroached upon for plotting by Yadav.

After an altercation, the two groups then opened fire at each other in the clash. Over half a dozen people have sustained injuries in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at the Devraha Baba Medical College.

A fire brigade team arrived at the scene and extinguished the burning vehicles.

Deoria’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Sankalp Sharma conducted an investigation at the spot and mentioned that both groups suffered injuries and some individuals were detained and being questioned.

The situation at the spot is currently under control and further probe was on.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and has extended his condolences to the grieving families.

The Chief Minister has directed the authorities to immediately transport the injured to the hospital and has given instructions to the district administration officials for their proper treatment. He has also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister has instructed the district administration officials to provide all possible assistance to the affected families. He has also directed the Commissioner/IG (Inspector General) to take prompt and strict action.

The Uttar Pradesh CM is personally monitoring the situation.
