New Delhi,UPDATED: May 2, 2024 11:14 IST

A total of 223 employees of the Delhi Commission for Women were removed with immediate effect on Thursday, following orders from the Department of Women and Child Development.

The order was issued after the approval of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on the basis of an enquiry report submitted to Saxena in 2017.

According to the report, Swati Maliwal, the then chairperson of DCW, had allegedly engaged these employees without the approval of the finance department and the Lieutenant Governor.

The order stated that only 40 posts were sanctioned under the DCW Act and no approval was taken for appointing the additional members.

The DCW didn’t have powers to engage them as contractual employees, the order stated.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
