2022 most peaceful for J&K in last 4 years: DGP

1 year ago 82

JAMMU: The year 2022 was more peaceful for Jammu and Kashmir compared to the last four years and saw the killing of 186 terrorists, including 56 foreign nationals, director general of police (

DGP

) Dilbagh Singh said Saturday.
For 2023, the resolution of police was “mission zero terror” and the prime focus would be to wipe out the “terror ecosystem”, he said.
Giving an overall picture of the security scenario in J&K at the year-end press conference, the DGP said terrorist recruitments had seen a considerable decline in the last 12 months while security forces had suffered a lesser number of casualties.
A majority of the 186 slain terrorists were affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Jaish-e-Muhammad, the police chief said, adding that 146 terror modules, each comprising 4-5 youths, were busted in the year just gone by.

In 2022, 100 youths joined terrorist ranks, the lowest in many years and a 37% decline compared to 2021. Of these, 17 were arrested while only 18 are active now, with the rest killed in various encounters.
A large number of youth who had gone on the wrong path were brought back to the mainstream, Singh said, but refused to share their number.
On the killing of civilians and security forces, the DGP said 14 policemen and 17 paramilitary personnel were killed, “which is the lowest ever”, and civilian casualties were also less, while only 24 law and order incidents were reported.
At least 55 vehicles and 28 houses being used for terror activities were seized while 649 people were booked under

PSA

for support to terrorists. A total of 188 weapons, including AK-47 rifles, 275 pistols, 354 grenades, 61 IEDs — including some ready-to-use, which were drone-dropped — were seized.
Giving out the details on drug busting, the police chief said 1,693 cases were registered under NDPS Act and a huge amount of contraband, including 212 kg heroin, 383 kg charas, 12 kg brown sugar and over 10,000 kg of poppy husk, besides other drugs, were seized.
J&K police registered 29,834 cases of crime in 2022, including 2,285 cases of crime against women, while 1,350 cases were registered under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Replying to a query, DGP Singh said LeT offshoot, The

Resistance Force

, was an IS mouthpiece and added that anyone issuing threats to minority communities and other sections of society would not be spared.
When asked about the G20 events being planned in J&K, Singh said “whatever will be required, including security structure, will be put in place”.
